SINUSITIS
Sinusitis is the inflammation of one or more of the sinus cavities, or passages. Sinusitis usually occurs in the nasal sinuses, which are located in the bones surrounding the eyes and nose. Symptoms of the inflammation include nasal congestion and discharge, fatigue, headache, earache, pain around the eyes, mild fever and an increased susceptibility to infection.
Sinusitis may be the result of cold, sore throat, tonsillitis, or poor mouth hygiene. Recent studies indicate that a deficiency of vitamin A, which helps maintain the health of he mucous membrane of the nose and throat, may cause the condition. Smoking, damp weather,or the ingestion of spicy foods or alcohol may aggravate sinusitis.
Adequate intake of vitamin A may be useful in the Treatment of sinusitis, especially in a deficiency exists. Vitamin C can help fight the infection that may occur with this condition, and protein will help restore damaged sinus tissues. Potassium, calcium, vitamin A and Zinc, which is necessary for vitamin A mobilization fro the liver, aid the work of the cilia. (Cilia are tiny little “fingers” in the nasal passages that help the expulsion of mucus).
